What Your Decisions Reveal About Your Leadership Values

Organizations often say people are their greatest asset.

Employees pay closer attention to whether leadership's decisions tell the same story.

One sentence from The Cost of Forgetting People captures what I hope leaders never forget:

"They were always the reason the organization existed in the first place."

Trust isn't built through mission statements.

It is built through consistent choices.

It is reflected in how people are developed during seasons of growth.

It is tested during seasons of uncertainty.

And it becomes part of your leadership legacy long after individual decisions have been forgotten.

Every policy, every conversation, and every difficult decision communicates what an organization truly values.

When those messages consistently honor the humanity of people, trust becomes part of the culture instead of something leaders have to continually rebuild.

As you reflect this weekend, ask yourself:

  • If someone observed only your decisions, not your values statement, what would they conclude your organization values most?
